For the redevelopment of The Bank, Kroonenberg Groep decided to apply a highly sustainable approach for this monumental object. Key sustainable features include the location, conveniently accessible by public transport, and the fact that this concerns an 80-year-old monument that is redeveloped. In addition, numerous sustainable materials and installations are applied. The Bank is equipped with a cold and heat storage system for the air conditioning of the building, for instance, optimally insulating glass, daylight-dependent lighting and automatically operated sun blinds. As a result, The Bank is one of the most sustainable monumental objects in Amsterdam. For an objective rating of the level of sustainability, several calculations have been made and labels have been applied for, including:
EPA-U label (Energy performance certificate)
The Bank achieves a score of 0.69 in this respect, resulting in an A+ label.
"Apart from the commendable choice of materials and technical applications, at Search we feel that there is one more aspect of sustainability that should be pointed out. This has to do with the effect of the building on human well-being. To put it simply: Is this a building that lifts your spirits? The extent to which a building makes people feel good is, after all, one of the determining factors when it comes to the question of whether it can continue to function, or whether it will have to be taken down at some point in time. In Kroonenberg's projects, the human factor is given a central role, and this applies also to The Bank. This explains the project's high score in terms of sustainability"
